This Privacy Statement applies to personal information collected by BALC-, its subsidiaries and related companies ('BALC-'), including information collected through our web sites www.balc.com.au or www.balecotton.com
BALC- treats very seriously the ongoing trust you have in us to protect your personal information. For that reason we have put in place systems and procedures to protect your privacy whenever we collect, store, use or disclose your personal information.
Collection of Personal Information
We collect most personal information directly from you, for example, when you enter into an agreement with us, purchase or offer Cotton for sale through our web site, deal with us over the telephone, send us a letter, give us your business card, visit our website or when you visit us in person.
The type of personal information we collect will often include your name, mailing address, telephone numbers, email address, occupation, financial information and information collected from you as a result of you using our services.
There may be occasions when we need to source personal information about you from a third party. For example, we may collect personal information from a credit reporting agency, third party brokers and Government agencies.
We only collect personal information about you that is necessary to perform our functions and activities, including:
- to assist in providing information about our services or the Cotton;
- to consider your request to sell or purchase Cotton;
- insurance purposes;
- to enable us to provide our services;
- to extend credit to you or to recover monies owed by you;

If you do not provide this information, BALC- may not be able to deal with you or provide you with the requested Cotton, other goods or service or process a credit application you have submitted to us.
Personal information is usually used or disclosed only after obtaining your consent. Your consent can be express or implied and may be given verbally or in writing. However, we may need to disclose personal information without your consent, for example, where required by law, where required during the investigation of an offence or where required for Court or for recovery proceedings.
We may also need to disclose personal information to third parties, for example, to the Grower supplying the Cotton, to the Customer seeking to purchase the Cotton or to third parties providing transportation and logistics services.
Marketing and Privacy
Servicing customers well is fundamental to our business. As part of this service we may use personal information we have collected to identify a product or service that may benefit you. We may also contact you from time to time to let you know about other products and services.
You can contact our Privacy Officer at any time at if you do not want to receive marketing information from BALC-. We will process these instructions as soon as practicable.
You Can Request Details about Your Personal Information
Subject to some exceptions, you can find out what personal information BALC- holds about you by contacting our Privacy Officer at the address below. We will, however, need to verify your identity before giving you access.
In a limited number of circumstances, we may not be able to tell you what personal information is held about you. Circumstances where this may arise include situations where:
- disclosure will threaten the privacy of other individuals;
- the information relates to anticipated legal proceedings;
- the information would reveal our commercially-sensitive decision-making processes; or
- the law prevents us from disclosing the information.
If we are unable to tell you what personal information is held about you, we will give you the reasons why and attempt to find alternative means to enable you to access the information.
Correcting Personal Information
If you learn that the personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, incomplete or out-of-date, you should contact us immediately to enable us to promptly update or correct our records. We will destroy or de-identify personal information if it is no longer needed:

Resolving Your Concerns
You are entitled to complain if you believe that your privacy has been compromised. We will respond to a complaint as soon as possible. We will try, wherever possible, to resolve the complaint within 10 working days. When this is not possible, we will contact you within that time to let you know how long it will take to resolve the complaint.
